HUBAND BRIDGE ON THE GRAND CANAL

A STREET PHOTOGRAPHER WHO LIKES DOING STUFF

HUBAND BRIDGE ACROSS THE GRAND CANAL
I lived in the area for about three years and really liked it especially in the summer months but there was one problem in that it became a very active ‘red light area’ at night. I think that things have changed since then.

  • Huband Bridge was built in 1791.
  • Named after Joseph Huband, a director of the Grand Canal Company.

The bridge is more interesting than the other bridges along the Grand Canal because Joseph Huband paid for the bridge out of his own fortune, making it more ornate than those paid for with company funds, many of which were named after other directors of the canal-operating company.
