Stunning new Vector Illustration App launched on Mac App Store

Affinity Designer takes full advantage of OS X technologies to set a new benchmark in performance for graphic design software

NOTTINGHAM, UK – October 02, 2014 – Having developed Windows only software for over 25 years, Serif today announced the much-anticipated launch of Affinity Designer, a radical new vector illustration and graphic design application for Mac.

4 years in the making, Affinity Designer’s rock solid vector tool set combined with raster retouch tools and effects makes it an intuitive, rounded tool for creating graphics for marketing materials, concept art, web graphics and UI design work.

But what makes it a total rock star is its performance. “We wanted to produce a game changer,” says Tony Brightman, head of the Affinity development team. “We knew Apple’s hardware and OS X offered us a platform to develop something fast, but the level of performance it’s allowed us to achieve is staggering. Whether it’s a 100 megapixel image or the most complex vector drawing with thousands of curves, you still pan and zoom at 60fps, move objects in correct z-order and see live views of all adjustments, brushes and effects as you’re working with no compromise. Progress bars are a thing of the
past.”

Blistering performance is one thing, but Serif has set their sights on a new market too. “Affinity Designer has been built entirely with Creative Professionals in mind and it’s unashamedly pro,” says Ashley Hewson, Serif’s Managing Director. “Of course this means support for things like CMYK, LAB, 16-bit and making sure we offer the best compatibility available for pro-end file formats like PSD. But it also means a highly use-case focused UI – no bloat, wizards or gimmicks. It’s just an incredibly productive tool.”

Over the last 3 months Affinity Designer has been in public beta and sparked a huge amount of interest with over 30,000 artists signing up. “The response has been amazing,” said Ashley. “We never imagined the beta would attract so many sign ups, and the feedback so overwhelmingly positive. Not just because of how good the product is, but with our no-subscription business model. It’s clear many people are welcoming some credible competition in this space.”
Affinity Designer is available exclusively in the Mac App Store (from October 2nd) at the launch price of just £27.99/$39.99. After launch week the normal price will be £34.99/$49.99.
