1915 COMES ALIVE IN DUBLIN CITY CENTRE

RTÉ ‘Road to the Rising’ allowed the public to step into the 1915-16 version of O’Connell Street this April in commemoration of the 1916 Easter Rising. The famous street, which was the setting of the historic 1916 events, was pedestrianised for the day in order to serve as the backdrop for a host of interesting attractions.

A restored open-front tram served as a platform for readings and music performances, while O’Connell Street the main street in Ireland acted as a stage for an oversized gramophone, a vintage carousel, a steam engine, and actors recreating scenes typical of day to day life a century ago.

OK it was a bit strange to see young girls dressed in vintage clothes and Nike shoes, Japanese girls taking selfies and a young lady in a vintage car using an iPad but everyone had fun.
