SECURING THE STONE VILLA BUILDING

Phibsborough Local Area Update - Paschal Donohoe TD [Government Minister]
29th July, 2014

Residents across Phibsborough continue to express their concern to myself and Councillor Ray McAdam about the dereliction of the Stone Villa building along the North Circular Road. City Council officials tried to undertake an inspection of the building but due to its continued deterioration, a full inspection was not possible. The City Council subsequently notified the owner of the building that specific stabilisation works were necessary and that plans to carry out such repairs would have to be approved by the Council’s Conservation Department. Councillor McAdam sought a report on the matter at this month’s City Council meeting and was informed that initial works have been approved and that repairs are underway. We understand that a follow-up inspection of the building will take place shortly to ensure that all stabilisation works meet the requirements as set down by Dublin City Council.

Apparently this was sold for €600,000 on 13 Oct 2010. Here is how it was described by the selling agent: "An enduring and endearing landmark residence which has been in the same family ownership for over a century, enjoying a prime position in the heart of Phibsborough, within walking distance of Dublin City Centre. This historic residence, a protected structure, stands on approximately 0.27 Ha (0.665 acres) and subject to acquiring the necessary planning permission, the grounds could be sensitively developed to accommodate a small exclusive residential scheme. The sale of this utterly charming 19th century villa style residence represents a once in a lifetime opportunity to acquire a distinctive Victorian residence in this exciting and dynamic location on the doorstep of Dublin City Centre. The property was originally constructed circa 1847 and now requires modernisation and refurbishment."
